It sounds like a long time but it flies by. Sorry for the delayed posts but we've been travelling a bit and lazy the rest.
We visited Bernkastel and Trier (both in Germany) in early August. Bernkastel is a small village on the Mosel River with quaint, old-style buildings that seem to lean into eachother (probably they actually do lean into eachother but we'll give them the benefit of the doubt).
At Trier we were able to visit the Roman Festival where they celebrate one of the oldest cities out side of Rome. The ruins there are pretty well preserved and we even attended a gladiator re-enactment (fully in German so we got about 1/2 of it - the explosions and fighting were pretty easy to understand though....:).
Over the next few weeks we were in the height of local German festivals (every small city and village has one). We were able to taste the beer, wine and sausages that Germany is well known for. Thomas has developed quite a taste for most any type of sausage so his German training is well under way. We even went on a Weinwanderung (literally Wine wandering) where we took a train to a nearby village with some of Josh's co-workers and had a nice day walking around the vineyards to burn off the wine.
Then Debora's family came to visit at the end of September but that's for another post in the next couple days (promise!).
Now we're getting settled into the 'normal' routines with Thomas back in school and focus on learning German coming back.
